We get it — life is busy. But when it comes to health insurance, putting things off can cost you money, coverage gaps, and a lot of stress. Here’s a friendly reminder of why acting early makes all the difference.
Medicare Won’t Wait for You
Medicare enrollment windows are strict. Unless you qualify for Medicare through disability, missing your Initial Enrollment Period around your 65th birthday can mean a lifetime late enrollment penalty. We teach our clients to plan ahead.
Build in extra time
Don’t wait until the last week of the month.
The application process can be time-consuming. The timing can be challenging with certain deadlines.
Don’t Forget Your Termination Letter
If you’re leaving a previous insurance plan — whether it’s an employer plan, a marketplace plan, or anything else — get that termination letter. Many carriers now require proof of prior creditable coverage when you apply for a Special Enrollment Period. Without it, your new application can be delayed or denied. And remember, a Special Enrollment Period gives you 60 days from the qualifying event.
