Big news for Medicare beneficiaries managing weight-related health conditions: as
of July 1, 2026, a new program called the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge lets eligible
members get popular medications like Wegovy, Zepbound, and Foundayo for a flat
$50 a month—no matter their income. This is for drugs that have carried price tags
in the hundreds or even over a thousand dollars a month.
Qualifying is straightforward. You’ll need active Medicare Part D coverage and a BMI
and health profile that fits the program’s guidelines — a BMI of 35 or higher on its
own, 30+ paired with a condition like heart failure or high blood pressure, or 27+
with prediabetes or a history of heart trouble. From there, talk to your doctor, they
handle the prescription and paperwork with Medicare, and you pick up your
medication at the pharmacy for $50.
A couple of practical things to keep in mind: the $50 is a flat copay rather than
something that counts toward your deductible, and the program is currently set to
run through the end of 2027 while CMS and insurers work out what comes next.
